Westlaw CoCounsel

Westlaw currently offers students, faculty, and staff access to its GenAI tools, AI Assisted Research and CoCounsel. 

AI Assisted Research is a feature of CoCounsel that uses LLM's which allow you to perform legal research quickly and easily. This AI tool can assist you in finding primary and secondary sources using Westlaw's vast knowledge database. You can simply ask a legal research question or develop a more specific prompt and the system will provide you a detailed response in a matter of seconds! The response includes a general summary of primary and secondary sources that AI Assisted Research consulted. Links to specific citations are also included for further reference. 

CoCounsel is another AI tool that can perform a variety of tasks to support your legal research needs. In addition to AI Assisted Research, CoCounsel also offers tools for document summaries, document analysis and review, and document drafting. These tools can help you complete research tasks at a much faster rate and assist in completing a variety of legal research projects.

Access to AI Assisted Research and CoCounsel is limited to current Fowler School of Law students, faculty, and staff. A Westlaw account is required to access these tools. 

Lexis+ Protégé

Lexis+ currently offers students, faculty and staff access to its GenAI tool, Protégé.

Lexis+ Protégé is the latest version of Lexis+ AI. It has the ability to accomplish even more complex tasks than the previous versions. Protégé has four main features, Ask, Draft, Summarize, and Documents. Each feature allows you to complete a variety of legal research related tasks from case law research to document analysis. You can also switch from one task to another to further enhance your workflows. 

Lexis+ Protégé.is available to current Fowler School of Law students, faculty, and staff only. A Lexis+ account is required to access this tool.

Bloomberg Law

Bloomberg Law recently launched two GenAI tools that are currently available to students, faculty and staff. The database also has other valuable AI tools to assist you with drafting documents.

Bloomberg Law Answers: This feature provides you with AI-generated summaries of responses to legal questions based on the search terms or legal research question you input into Bloomberg Law Search. The summary of the answers to your prompt appear at the top of search results. The responses include citations and links to Bloomberg Law's primary and secondary resources that were included in the summary..

Bloomberg AI Assistant: This feature can be used to for reviewing and summarizing documents such as a case or article. The system is a chat based tool which you can use to ask further questions about the specific document you are reviewing.

Draft Analyzer: Uses GenAI to analyze and make recommendations for drafts of merger agreements. This tool also includes Clause Adviser which can be used to instantly evaluate clause favorability and allows you to quickly modify the language of a clause to favor a certain party. 

Brief Analyzer: This is another practitioner tool useful for analyzing the content of briefs. Simply upload a document and the tool will generate a report of cited authorities and arguments contained in the brief, as well as a list of suggested content for review. 

Bloomberg Law Answers and AI Assistant are only available to current Fowler School of Law students, faculty, and staff. A Bloomberg Law account is required to access these tools.
