Civil Procedure Research Guide

What is Civil Procedure?

Civil Procedure refers to the rules and laws by which federal and state civil lawsuits are governed. The Federal government follows the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) while each state has its own set of rules. The federal rules are further separated into local rules for each district court. For example, the Central District of California, which Orange County is part of, has its own local rules that cover more issues relevant to the specific district. State courts also have local rules as well.
